Vanessa Grubbs, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor in the Division of Nephrology at the University of California, San Francisco and has maintained a clinical practice at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital since 2009. Her primary interests are renal palliative care and narrative writing. Her research focuses on treatment alternatives for the frail elderly with end-stage kidney disease. She teaches writing for patient advocacy to medical students and practicing physicians and blogs at thenephrologist.com.

 

Her first book, HUNDREDS OF INTERLACED FINGERS: A Kidney Doctor’s Search for the Perfect Match, released June 13, 2017 through Harper Collins Publishers, Amistad division, is a narrative non-fiction about her journey from first doctor in her family, to kidney donor, to nephrologist and the issues she discovered in nephrology.
